To easily and quickly extract all of the laminated grand packing groups press fitted between the inner circumferential surface of a stuffing box and the outer circumferential surface of a shaft body with no special tool used, and make an exchange periodically in excellent operating property.

A shaft sealing device is equipped with an extraction member 13 formed out of a grand packing group 5 to be inserted in between the inner circumferential surface of a stuffing box 4 and the outer circumferential surface of a shaft body 2 while being laminated in the axial direction, wherein the grand packing group is received out of a ring shaped packing seat body 11 catching and supporting the inner end part in the axial direction of the stuffing box 4, and of an extraction operating body 12 which is fixed to the packing seat body 11 at its one end, and allows the other end to be penetrated through the laminated grand packing group 5 in the axial direction in a state that it is projected outward out of the outer end opening part of the stuffing box 4, and the outward projected end part 12a of the extraction operating body 12 in the packing extraction member 13 is held so as to be capable of being relatively displaced in the axial direction with respect to a packing pressing member 6.
