Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make axially movable upon a second collision a steering shaft which is rotatably supported by a bearing fixed in the lower end of a column jacket and is also supported in an axially unmovable manner during normal use.
SOLUTION: In this steering column, the upper end of a column jacket 3 is supported at the vehicle body in a separable or movable manner, and the lower end thereof is also supported at the vehicle body in a separable or movable manner. Moreover, a steering shaft 4 is contained within the column jacket 3 so as to be rotatable around its axis and axially retractable. A collar 9 is introduced through a bearing 7 fixedly fitted in the lower end of the column jacket 3, and is fixed with a nut 10. Moreover, the steering shaft 4 is introduced through the collar 9, and resin 13 is injected for solidification from an injection port 9a formed in the collar 9 into a small-diameter portion 12 of the steering shaft 4.
