PURPOSE: To obtain a shake preventing device capable of effectively preventing the blurring caused by camera shake, etc., especially the blurring caused by the shifting of the principal point of a lens by utilizing photographing with strobe light.
CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a shake preventing mechanism part for driving a shake preventing optical system when angular velocity sensors 60x and 60y detect the shake. An exposure mode selection means 57 selecting the photographing with strobe light according to a photographing distance by a range-finding means 52 is provided. The means 57 selects the photographing with strobe light according to whether the photographing distance is shorter than a specified distance, or whether photographing magnification by a focal distance detecting means is larger than a specified value. Furthermore, it selects the photographing with strobe light by using the result by a photometry means 51 at the same time. By setting a brightness level for judging whether or not the photographing with strobe light is selected as reference, it selects the photographing with strobe light at the brightness level or when the brightness is lower than the brightness level and selects photographing with external light when it is higher than the brightness level. The shorter the distance is, or the longer the focal distance is, or the larger photographing magnification is, the higher the brightness level is set and the photographing with strobe light is selected.
