Abstract:

PURPOSE: To embody a shape changeable actuator capable of grasping for certain any thin objects and small size objects and excellent in position accuracy.
CONSTITUTION: A reinforcement fiber 3 in the circumferential direction restricts a tube 2 to extend in the radius direction through all the area. A shaft reinforcement fiber 4 partially restricts the tube 2 to extend in the axis direction and also restrains the displacement of an output end 8 of an actuator 1 towards its unintended direction to the minimum. Such actuator 1 curves in an S shape when pressure is applied because the shaft reinforcement fiber 4 extends in the axis direction at the area where there is no connection. Consequently, the output end 8 of the actuator 1 makes displacement in the vertical direction against the tube axis without changing its angle and the displacement in the tube axis direction is small. Thus grasping of a thin object and small size object can be accomplished for certain. Furthermore, with an actutor having its both ends fixed and its central portion made an output portion, vibration caused by the weight of an object is small and the position accuracy is good.
