Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture a shape memory alloy with high transformation temp., capable of forming an article having high transformation temp. and capable of producing an article, such as spring and wire, by means of hot working and cold working.

CONSTITUTION: This shape memory alloy is composed essentially of a composition represented by general formula MATi(100-A-B)XB, wherein M is a metal other than zirconium and hafnium, X is Hf or a mixture of Hf and Zr, the amount of Zr does not exceed about 25 atomic % of the alloy, the amount of Hf is at least 0.1 atomic %, the symbols A and B stand for 30-51 atomic % and 0.1-50 atomic %, respectively, and the sum of A and B is ≤80 atomic %.
