This system comprises an ARS 1 communicable with a power meter reading center 20 and gas meter reading center 4 for collecting meter reading data through a line, PHS terminal stations 5-8 for inputting meter reading data and performing radio communication with the ARS 1 for the meter reading data, and a voltmeter unit and gas meter unit for outputting meter reading data, which are connectable to the PHS terminal stations. Each of the meter reading centers communicates with the ARS 1 according to a communication protocol differed every meter reading center. Accordingly, even in the shared meter reading system, unification of communication protocol is not needed, and the communication protocol peculiar to each meter reading center can be used. Consequently, each meter reading center can use the communication protocol present in the center concerned.
