PURPOSE: To obtain the subject fiber having moisture absorption and desorption characteristics and excellent wearability and capable of sufficiently keeping the physical properties of fiber and giving excellent feeling after alkali thinning by using a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight falling within a specific range as the sheath component.
CONSTITUTION: The objective fiber contains a sheath component composed of a polyester copolymerized with 4-15wt.% of a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of 500-6,000 and has a carboxyl group content of 0.8×10-3 to 2.3×10-3g-equivalent/g-fiber and a core/sheath ratio of 10/90 to 90/10 on the cross section. The core of the fiber is preferably polyethylene terephthalate homopolymer, etc.
