PURPOSE: To switch the forward/backward discharging direction of document sheets by changing over the position of movable guide plates from a switch on an operation panel.

CONSTITUTION: When an operation panel 64 is manipulated to operate a driver device and movable guide plates 54, 62 are moved to the position as guiding document to ahead of the device body 2, each document sheet inserted in front of the body 2 is read by a reading sensor 10 furnished in the body 2 and transported to the rear of the device body 2. At this time, the document sheet gets on the guide plates 54, 62 and is discharged to ahead of the body 2 under guidance thereof. When the movable guide plates 54, 62 are moved into the position apart from the ahead guiding position, the document sheet sent to the rear of the device body 2 is dropped off to the back of the body 2 without being guided to ahead of the body 2.
