To provide a feeder roller device for high speed image scanning equipment that improves feed of documents, especially short documents, sequentially fed from a stack.

The feeder device includes a PIC roller and an in-feed roller selectively and independently driven via a dual driveshaft comprising an inner driveshaft and an outer driveshaft simultaneously, or selectively and independently driven by a main motor. An electromechanical clutch, when energized, is used to drive the PIC roller. A sensor is disposed downstream of the rollers to recognize when a document is fed.
