PURPOSE: To restore a sheet handling device to its normal conditions from its paper jamming condition without the sheet handling device being rested, by reversely rotating a feed mechanism when the paper jamming is occurred in the paper feed section of the paper handiling device, to remove the jammed banknote.

CONSTITUTION: When a paper jamming condition in a paper feed section 22C is detected by a sensor, an upper plate 29 raises up to the position of a stopper 29 together with a presser 12. Then, a plunger magnet 32 is actuated to grip residual banknotes between an upper roller R1 and a lower roller R4. Therefore, when a pick roller R3 and a feed roller R4 are reversely rotated and a lower roller 2 is simultaneously rotated in the direction of the arrow T, the jammed banknote 10 is moved back and then is gripped and conveyed between the upper roller R1 and the lower roller R2 together with the residual banknotes 10 to be moved in the direction of the arrow U, thereby the banknotes 10 are withdrawn into a reject box 25a.
