To provide a simple method and a device which are modified in such a manner that when a sheet material, such as terry cloth or other cloth, is cut into segments, the material is fed by a length, equivalent to one full segment length, along a working surface through control, the laterally stretched band of the material is accurately aligned with a cutting blade for cutting, and the brim of the periphery of the segment is formed in an accurate and preferable shape.

A sheet material cutting device comprises a sheet material feed mechanism 13 engaged with a sheet material and pushing out a cut end part across a cutting station 14; and the draw bar 81 of a material draw assembly 16. The draw bar 81 is moved downward and engaged with the front edge of a material and the material is drawn to its cut position. The draw bar 81 is pivotally rotated by a cylinder 111, and by stretching a material on the side where movement of the material in the direction to a cutting station is delayed, a material freed from fluff is linearly corrected and the material is cut.
