To provide a highly functional sheet material for a seat, which has a deodorizing effect and a diffusion accelerating effect.
A hydrophilic layer 9 is formed by plasma-graft polymerization on the back face side 7b on the opposite side of the surface side 7a of a base material 7 with which at least a seating person 3 makes contact. This constitution allows sweat permeating from the surface side 7a of the base material 7 and reaching the hydrophilic layer 9, to widely spread toward the inside of the seat and a contact area of the back face side 9b of the hydrophilic layer 9 with air is extremely increased. The sweat or the like thus easily volatilizes into the air to improve the diffusion accelerating effect. This sheet material can diffuse the sweat or the like absorbed by the surface side 7a of the base material 7 from the back side 9b of the hydrophilic layer 9 so as to be excellent in providing the diffusion accelerating effect irrelevant to the presence/absence of a seating person 3. The sweat or the like permeating from the surface side 7a of the base material 7 quickly transfers to the side of the hydrophilic layer 9 without remaining on the surface side 7a of the base material 1, so that this sheet is excellent in eliminating sticky feeling and discomfort of the seating person 3 caused by the sweat or the like stuck again to his/her clothes 10 or hands.
