To solve the problem in that a short transport path may generate an unfavorable condition for a transverse register correction.
The sheet transport device is structured so that the sheet transporting speed of a transverse register correction roller 25 and a slant feeding roll 26 couple becomes higher than the sheet transporting speed of a post-fixation roller 17 and a second roll 19 couple in the timing immediately before the sheet P trailing edge passes through the nip between the post-fixation roller 17 and the second rolls 19. Thereby the sheet P is pulled by the nips between the post-fixation roller 17 and the second roll 19 couple and between the transverse register correction roller 25 and the slant feeding roll 26 couple to be put in the maximally elongated condition within a curved inversion part 40, which can preclude the sheet behavior willing to straighten by its own stiffness when the trailing edge of the sheet P has passed through the nip between the post-fixation roller 17 and the second rolls 19.
