To measure the sheet transport speed of each transport roller accurately even if a sheet transport device is configured so that one sheet is transported by a plurality of transport rollers simultaneously.
The sheet transport device is equipped with a plurality of transport roller means, a plurality of driving means, a controlling means, a sheet transporting speed sensing means, and a sheet speed correcting function to correct the rotating speeds of the driving means so that the sheet transporting speed of each roller means becomes the specified value, whereby transport of one sheet member is conducted while it is pinched by at least two roller means, and when sensing the transporting speed of the roller means is to be conducted, the sensing of the transporting speed of the roller means to be sensed is conducted after controlling the driving means of the roller means upstream of the roller means to be sensed so that the sensing can be conducted without being influenced by the roller means other than the one to be sensed.
