To provide a shield machine and a method of recovering the cutter drive section thereof enabling a reduction in cost and construction period when the drive section of a cutter frame is dismounted and recovered from a machine body after the excavation is completed.
After this shield machine 1 is advanced to an excavation completion position in a soil, a hardener is injected into a cutter chamber 12 between a partition wall 6 and the cutter frame 4 to solidify the sediment in the cutter chamber 12. A first screw tightening device 36 and a second screw tightening device 37 are loosened, and a drive section frame 34 is removed to the anti-facing side of a seal housing 32 and a rotating ring 35. A third screw tightening device 38 is loosened, and the rotating ring 35 is removed to the anti-facing side of a support ring 31. A fourth screw tightening device 39 is loosened, and the seal housing 32 is removed to the anti-facing side of the partition wall 6. A fifth screw tightening device 40 is loosened, and a support ring 31 is removed to the anti-facing side of an annular flange 30. These removed parts are recovered.
