Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance driveability using a partially automated mechanical transmission system by performing shifts while determining whether or not synchronous conditions for engagement of a target gear ratio are feasible if selected upshifts are made.

CONSTITUTION: Output signals from input and output shaft speed sensors 98, 100, a driver control console 108, a pedal position sensor 152 and the like are input to an electronic control unit 106 in an automatic preselect and semi-automatic shift implementation control system 104 for controlling a semi-automatic mechanical transmission 10. The desirability of a shift from a current engagement ratio to a target transmission ratio is determined and an expected vehicle acceleration AO to drive wheels at zero engine torque is also determined. As a function of the expected vehicle acceleration AO, a target gear ratio and input shaft expected acceleration, determination is made as to whether or not roughly synchronous conditions for engagement of the target ratio are feasible when selected shifts are made, and the shifts are made only when the conditions are determined to be YES.
