The shift device 1 of the automatic transmission is equipped with a shift knob 2 to select either among a plurality of ranges set on the automatic transmission and a cable 8 coupled with the automatic transmission and performs a speed change while the cable 8 is pushed and pulled in association with the shifting operation made from the knob 2, wherein the constitution further includes an epicyclic gear mechanism 6 having a sun gear 3 fixed to the vehicle body, planet gears 4 to mesh with the sun gear 3, and an internal gear 5 to mesh with the planet gears 4 in such an arrangement that the sun gear 3 and the internal gear 5 are formed locally in the circumferential direction, and the planet gears 4 are installed rotatably on a carrier 7 coupled with the cable 8, and the knob 2 is mounted on the internal gear 5.
