PURPOSE: To release the manual lock in an emergency and to prevent the manual lock release by a third person, by turning on a solenoid to attract a plunger accompanying with a rotation operation of an ignition key so as to release the lock and make a lock release knob attractable.

CONSTITUTION: When a select lever 10 lies in a parking position, a stopper 34 stops a forward and a backward movement of a position pin 16. On the other hand, when an ignition key 58 is rotated to ACC position on a display plate 48, a solenoid 30 is turned on to attract a plunger 32, then a stopper 34 is moved to release locked movement of the position pin 16. And when the solenoid 30 becomes inoperable for the sake of a voltage drop, the ignition key 58 is rotated to lower the tip of a lock plate 54. Thereby a release knob 62 can be pulled to attract a release plate 36 connected to the stopper 34 with a hook member 38 through a release cable 40.
