The shift position detector is equipped with: a rotator (rotating member) 15 rotated by an action transmitted from the shift lever for conducting a shift operation of the automatic transmission; a cylinder body (rotating member) 21 rotatably provided at the rotating member 15; a rotation transmission mechanism 26 for rotating the rotation member 21 accompanying the rotation of the rotating member 15; a plurality of counter contact modules (responsive elements) 27 to 31, provided in positions along rotation of the rotating member 15, for respectively operating in accordance with rotation of the rotating member 21. A shift operation position of the shift lever 2 is detected by operation of the respective responsive elements 27 to 31.
