A permanent magnet (element to be detected) 22 and a sensor (detecting element) 21 are used by linear movement of a conversion device 20 for converting rotation transmitted from a shift lever into linear movement so that the shifting position is detected. As for the linear movement, it is easy to secure high precision compared with rotation and cost does not increase because accuracy of finishing is not required for a guide as an instance.
