In a shifting furnace hearth type heating furnace for executing heating while intermittently conveying a material supported on a fixed furnace hearth by moving the movable furnace hearth upward/downward and forward/ backward in a prescribed conveying stroke, a hydraulic driving type forward/ backward driving device 3 which drives a shifting table 1 fitted to the movable furnace hearth forward/backward, is arranged and also, two sets of vertical driving mechanisms 10 each of which is provided with rollers 5 supporting the shifting table 1 at the upper part and arranged with plural pieces of levers 6a-6c where intermediate parts are pivotally supported with the interval in the furnace longitudinal direction and which connects the lower part of each lever with a connecting rod 7, are parallel arranged in the furnace width direction. Further, a rotation-driving device which rotationally drives a supporting shaft 8 fitted to the intermediate part of one pair of levers 6b, 6b opposing to the furnace width direction and uses an electric motor as a prime mover.
