PURPOSE: To maintain the initial performance over a long period with braking force stably generated by impregnating an inorganic fiber-made woven fabric with an inorganic binding material or applying it to the woven fabric and drying or heat treating this inorganic binding material.
CONSTITUTION: A shim, used for a disc brake, is constituted by impregnating an inorganic fiber-made woven fabric with an inorganic binding material or applying it to the woven fabric and drying or heat treating this inorganic binding material. As the inorganic fiber constituting the woven fabric, one or two kinds or more of the glass fiber, carbon fiber and the ceramic fiber are used. This shim is held between the reverse surface of a pad 3 and the end surface of a piston 5 or the internal side surface of a caliper pawl 4a. Thus, generated heat in braking is prevented from being transmitted to brake fluid for driving the disc brake so that the initial performance can be maintained over a long period.
