To provide a ship with a greatly reduced amount of ballast water compared with that conventionally loaded and rotationally driving a propeller in an efficient position without affecting an environment and an ecosystem as much as possible.
The ship equipped with a vertically movable propulsion device is configured with a propeller propulsion device 2 having a driving means for driving the propeller 3 within a container 1 and horizontally rotatable 360 degree, a support shaft 5 supporting the propeller propulsion device 2 from a hull 10 side, and the driving means for driving the support shaft 5 up and down. An electric motor is driven by an electric power drawn from a generator provided in the ship. As the vertical driving means, a ball screw, a pinion rack mechanism, and a hydraulic driving device can be used.
