To provide a shock absorber enabling vehicle-height adjustment out of shock absorbers which are utilized as a vehicle suspension of an automobile and the like to dampen vibrations and shocks during the running of a vehicle.

The shock absorber includes a shock absorber body 1 and a knuckle bracket 2 to adjust the height of a vehicle by vertically changing the position at which the knuckle bracket 2 is attached to the shock absorber body 1, the knuckle bracket 2 comprising a pair of grip pieces 6, 7 for gripping the shock absorber body 1, a pair of through-holes 8, 9 provided to the grip pieces 6, 7 and being opposite to each other, and bolts 10 inserted in the through-holes 8, 9 to fasten the grip pieces 6, 7 in a close relationship to each other, wherein the shock absorber body 1 is provided on its outer circumference with grooves 11 crossing the axial direction of the shock absorber body 1, the bolts 10 are engaged with the grooves 11 with their side surfaces opposite to the grooves 11 to connect the knuckle bracket 2 to the shock absorber body 1, and thereby has a changing means for vertically changing the position at which the knuckle bracket 2 is attached to the shock absorber body 1.
