PURPOSE: To improve the mechanical property of a grinding wheel as well as prevent any damage such as chipping and cracking in an angular part of a tip face peripheral edge of the grinding wheel irrespective of vibration in a roll by mixing a short fiber in the stone uniformly.
CONSTITUTION: In such a state that a tip face 12 of a grinding wheel 10 is pressed to an outer circumferential surface of a roll, sliding friction is produce din an interval between this roll outer circumferential surface and the grinding wheel 10, and the roll outer circumferential surface is ground by the grinding wheel 10 with on-line. At this time, short fibers is uniformly dispersed and mixed in the grinding wheel 10, and mechanical property of this grinding wheel 10 is enhanced. With this, any damage such as chipping (defective) and cracking or the like is prevented from occurring in an angular part of a tip face peripheral edge of the grinding wheel 10 irrespective of vibration in the roll, and a collision between irregularities existing on the roll outer circumferential surface and the grinding wheel 10.
