Title:
SHORT WAVELENGTH LASER BEAM SOURCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3492337
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the optical characteristics of higher harmonics emitted after conversion when making incident of fundamental waves from a short wavelength laser beam source which uses a semiconductor laser onto an optical wavelength conversion element so as to convert the fundamental waves into higher harmonics.
SOLUTION: Semiconductor laser light beams P1 are made incident on an optical waveguide 2 of an optical wavelength conversion element 22 where an optical waveguide 2 and polarization reversal regions 3 are formed on an LiTaO3 substrate and waveguide converted to obtain blue color light beams. At that time, the driving current of a DBR(distributed Bragg reflector) section 40 of a DBR semiconductor laser 21a is varied, the oscillating wavelength of the laser 21a is matched with the phase matching wavelength of the element 22 and higher harmonics P2 being generated are controlled to constant. Thus, even though the ambient temperature is changed, the wavelength of the semiconductor laser is made constant and a stable operation is realized.
