To provide a shot for surface modification which forms a compressive stress layer and a corrosion resistance improvement layer on the surface side of the material to be worked so as to improve the corrosion resistance of the material to be worked in the environment of a high temperature-high pressure fluid, thus its stress corrosion crack resistance can be exceedingly improved, and to provide a surface modification method.
The shot 15 for surface modification is used for forming a surface modification layer 14 including a compressive stress layer 12 and a corrosion resistance improvement layer 13 on the surface side of the material 11 to be worked by peening treatment, which is composed of a material comprising a corrosion resistance improvement element (e.g., chromium) for forming the corrosion resistance improvement layer 13 realizing a high corrosion resistance layer in the environment of a high temperature-high pressure fluid, further has a crack 16, and is peelably composed.
