This shredder is provided with a shredding mechanism 2 for shredding a sheet-like object 1, a drive source 4 for driving the mechanism 2 by the electric power from a commercial power source 3, a controller 5 for controlling the source 4, a power unit 6 for rectifying the voltage inputted from the source 3 and supplying the electric power to the controller 5, a power supply cutting-off mechanism 7 for cutting-off the power supply from the source 3 to the unit 6 so that the power supply from the unit 6 to the controller 5 is made to be zero and furthermore a power supply restoring mechanism 8 for restoring the power supply from the source 3 to the unit 6 after the mechanism 7 works.
