To provide a very safe shredder which effectively prevents a person from inserting his finger into a throw-in slit.
The shredder 1 cuts a material to be cut, which is thrown in from a throw-in slit 3, with a rotary blade 12 and discharges the cut material into a trash accommodation box 7. In this case, the thrown-in slit is composed of a guidance wall 10, which guides the material to be cut to the rotary blade, and a fixed wall 11 which is arranged opposite to the guidance wall at a prescribed interval M, and an elastic member 4 is protruded on the surface of the fixed wall in a state in which a distance L from the front end part to a guidance surface is kept to be narrower than the thickness of a child's finger. When a child's finger is going to be drawn into the inner part of the shredder in a state in which the finger contacts the material to be cut, the elastic member can detach the finger from the material to be cut.
