To provide a device and a method for forming a shrinking tube with which a blank tube diameter can be shrunk under good state of the roundness, and a catalytic converter with which the blank tube diameter is shrunk with the good roughness so that a catalytic vessel is tightly stuck to a mat wound on a catalytic carrier.
The device for forming the shrinking tube, is provided with dies 1 divided into plurality, a driving mechanism for driving each die 1 so as to push from the outside in the diameter direction of the blank tube W, respectively and spacers 3 disposed between mutually adjoined dies 1, 1 for forming a space S permissible to a prescribed amount of fluidity in the material of the shrinking blank tube. The method for forming the shrinking tube, is the one, with which the blank tube W is shrunk into the prescribed diameter with the divided die 1 by pushing from the outside in this diameter direction, and the space S permissible to the fluidity of the prescribed amount of the material in the blank tube W between the divided dies 1, 1 and the diameter of the blank tube W is shrunk while fluidizing the prescribed amount of the material in the blank tube W into this space S.
