A wiper part 152 is provided on a moving plate 151. The pawl part 32 of a front curtain drive lever 30 is engaged in the engaging hole 155a of a main arm 155 for driving the moving plate 151 so as to couple the front curtain drive lever 30 with the main arm 155, and the main arm 155 coupled with the front curtain drive lever 30 and the moving plate 151 are moved by turning of the front curtain drive lever 30 so as to clean the front side surface of an optical filter 201 by the wiper part 152. After cleaning, the coupling of the front curtain drive lever 30 with the main arm 155 is released. Since the wiper part 152 is provided independently of light shielding blades 131 and 141, restrictions in positional relation between the shutter device and an imaging device unit associated with the arrangement of the wiper member as shown in the conventional shutter device are removed. Thus, the degree of freedom in the selection and arrangement of the parts in a focal plane shutter 100 and a digital still camera can be secured.
