A focal plane shutter 100 includes: a baseplate 110 on which a shutter aperture 112 is formed; a front curtain 120 which opens/shuts the shutter aperture 112; a rear curtain 140 which moves between a shielding position where it shields the shutter aperture 112 and an opening position where it opens the shutter aperture 112; a middle plate 130 which is disposed between the front curtain 120 and the rear curtain 140, and on which the shutter aperture 112 to be opened/shut by the front curtain 120 and the rear curtain 140 is formed; a front curtain support arm 160 which is turnably supported on the baseplate 110, supports the front curtain 120 and moves the front curtain 120 between the shielding position and the opening position; and a rear curtain support arm 170 which is turnably supported on the baseplate 110 on an opposite side to the front curtain support arm 160 across the shutter aperture 112, supports the rear curtain 140 and moves the rear curtain 140 between the shielding position and the opening position.
