Title:
SIC COMPOSITE MATERIAL SLEEVE AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3143086
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cylindrical SiC composite material sleeve excellent in heat resistance, corrosion resistance, high strength and precise processability also under severe conditions such as a condition irradiated with radiations or the like by impregnating the circular knitted fabric of SiC continuous fibers with an organic silicon compound and subsequently calcining the impregnated circular knitted fabric to give a porosity of a specific value or smaller and a specific thickness.
SOLUTION: SiC fibers having a diameter of about 5-20 μm are circularly knitted to form a circular knitted sleeve. The SiC fiber sleeves are laminated to a titanium bar wound with mold release paper in three or less layers and subsequently impregnated with an organic silicon compound having an average mol.wt. of 500-100,000. The impregnated sleeve is held with a split type press mold and calcined at the atmospheric pressure in an inactive gas (nitrogen or argon) atmosphere at 800-1600°C to convert the organic silicon compound into SiC. The compacting process comprising impregnating and calcining the organic silicon compound is repeated to produce the cylindrical SiC fiber- reinforced SiC composite material sleeve having a porosity of ≤40% and a thickness of ≤5 mm.
