Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve accessibility of an MRI system structure using an opener C-type magnet, and minimize the volume necessary for an attendant RF shielded gantry room. CONSTITUTION: A special patient transferring mechanism 50 has structures 55a to 55d which expand and contract at least partly around a lower magnetic polar surface 14 of the C-shape MRI polarized magnet 10 when a patient 58 is laterally loaded to an imaging volume between magnetic polar surfaces. Open accessibility in the substantially close vicinity of the patient 58 is maintained by a loading procedure, a subsequent preparation procedure and an imaging procedure which accompany the MRI system.
