To provide a simple structure of a side step device having no bulky volume, facilitating its fixing or assembling as well as its maintenance work in a less-expensive manner and enabling a safe state of the device or a person.
This step device has a step plate 5 that can be moved between an expansion position where it is provided at a side outlet/inlet 2 to exceed a vehicle limit 4 and expands toward a platform 3 and a storing position where the step plate is stored in the vehicle limit 4. The step plate 5 is supported in such a way that it can move between the expanded position and the storing position through its turning around a fixed shaft 6. There are provided a linear driving source 7 reciprocated in the vehicle limit 4 in a vehicle running direction A, and a motion converting means 8 for connecting the linear driving source 7 and the step plate 5 so as to convert a reciprocating motion of the linear driving source into the aforesaid turning operation of the aforesaid step plate 5. The aforesaid object is accomplished through this arrangement.
