PURPOSE: To remarkably decrease generation of an edge break in a knife cutting edge while holding a cut surface in a fixed quality, by chamfering the edge point of a knife to a degree of 0.05W0.3R in the case of the strip trimming side trimmer knife.
CONSTITUTION: A side trimmer knife 20 (a) (b) chamfers its edge point 30 by honing to a degree of 0.1R, and if the chamfered knife is compared with a conventional side trimmer knife not chamfering its edge point by using the both knives to perform side trimming, the chamfered knife generates an edge break to zero in the beginning of use 100T, on the contrary, the non-chamfered knife provides a high edge break rate of 0.15 also thereafter showing a high rate as a whole. While a good burrless cut surface is obtained to a degree of 0.1R for low C steel HRB 30W50, 0.2R for normal C steel HRB 60W75 and 0.3R for high C steel HRB 90W104, and the side trimmer knife can hold a fixed quality further prevent generation of an edge break by performing chambering suitable for the kind of steel.
