Abstract:
PURPOSE: To convert an image signal with low image resolution into an image signal with higher resolution by classification properly corresponding to various signal characteristics of an input image signal.
CONSTITUTION: An input image signal (S1) is given to a plural-classification means (12) having plural different classification methods, in which the signal is classified and a class (c3) on which a signal characteristic of the input image signal (S1) is best reflected is selected to read prediction coefficients (d11, d12 or d13) in response to the selected class (c3). Then, the prediction arithmetic operation using the prediction coefficients (d11, d12 or d13) is executed for the input image signal (S1) to generate an interpolation picture element for the input image signal (S1).
