Abstract:
To generate a signal such as a microwave and a millimeter wave, having phase noise suppressed, in a frequency-variable state without requiring a stable optical frequency comb reference light source specially.SOLUTION: A self-reference interferometer 107 causes an (n)th higher harmonic of a long-wavelength component and an (n-1)th higher harmonic of a short-wavelength component, obtained from optical pulses having an optical spectral band expanded by a nonlinear optical medium 106, to interfere with each other to generate an optical signal having a frequency difference between the (n)th higher harmonic and (n-1)th higher harmonic, the optical signal generated by the self-reference interferometer 107 is photoelectrically converted by an optical detector 108 to output an electric signal, and a feedback control part 109 compares the electric signal output from the optical detector 108 after the photoelectric conversion with a second signal output from a second signal generation part 103 to control a first signal generation part 102 based upon a state of the comparison so that phase noise of a first signal is suppressed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
