PURPOSE: To obtain a reproducing picutre with high quality while the suppressing effect of crosstalk is improved by modulating a main signal with an M series signal so as to form a recording signal on a magnetic tape and using the M series signal so as to demodulate a reproducing signal.

CONSTITUTION: The main signal inputted from a terminal 1 is subjected to FM modulation by a recording signal processing circuit 2 and the result is inputted to a balanced modulator 3, and the M series signal generated from an M series pseudo noise generator 4 is inputted to the modulator 3. The modulator 3 uses the M series signal so as to apply 2-phase balanced modulation to an output of the circuit 2, the output is fed to a recording magnetic head 6 via a recording amplifier 5 and the result is recorded on the magnetic tape 7. A signal reproduced by a reproducing head 8 from the tape 7 at the reproduction is amplified 9 and fed to a correlation device 10, and the M series signal the same at the recording is fed from a generator 11 to the correlation device 10. The correlation device 10 demodulats the reproducing signal into the original FM signal, the output signal of the correlation device 10 is subjected to FM demodulation by a reproducing signal processing circuit 12 and the main signal demodulated into the base band is outputted from a terminal 13.
