PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal compound containing a compound having silacyolohexane ring and effective for decreasing the viscosity and lowering the melting point of a mixed liquid crystal composition.
CONSTITUTION: A silacyclohexane compound of formula I (R is a 1-10C alkyl, a 2-7C alkoxyalkyl, a 1-10C mono or difluoroalkyl, etc.; the ring A in the compound is trans-1-sila-1,4-cyclohexylene group or trans-4-sila-1,4-cyclohexylene group having H, F, Cl or CH3 substituent on the Si atom at the 1 or 4 site; L1 and L2 are each independently H, F, Cl or CH3; X is CN, F, Cl, etc.) is produced by the C-C bond forming reaction or C-Si bond forming reaction of an organometallic reagent of the formula R-M {M is MgP (P is a halogen), ZnP or Li} with a compound of formula II {Q is a halogen, an alkoxy, methanesulfonyl, etc.}.
