Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an amorphous silica fiber consisting of fine fibers made cottony by winding under no load by oxidizing gaseous SiO with gaseous oxygen fed as a gaseous mixture.
CONSTITUTION: An SiO generating material such as a powdery silicon-silica mixture or a powdery silica-carbon mixture is heated under reduced pressure to generate gaseous SiO. This gaseous SiO is oxidized with a gaseous oxygen- inert gas mixture to form a silica fiber. This silica fiber is an amorphous silica fiber consisting of amorphous fine fibers made cottony by winding under no load.
