PURPOSE: To prevent the falling and breakage of a silica rod and to improve the yield of the product by supporting the silica rod drawn out from a melting furnace and cut with a receiving plate in contact with the lower end of the rod, and lowering the rod into a vessel arranged at the lower part.
CONSTITUTION: The raw materials such as quartz sand and quartzite are charged into the melting furnace 1, heated by a burner 2 to a high temp., and melted. The obtained molten silica 3 is drawn out from the lower part of the furnace 1 through the upper and lower bands 4 and 5 lifted up and down by screw rods 6 and 7 to obtain a silica rod 8. In this silica producing device, the receiving plate 10 lifted up and down by a driving gear 11 such as a cylinder is lifted, and abutted on the lower end of the silica rod 8. The receiving plate 10 is then lowered in synchronization with the bands 4 and 5. The rod 8 is cut to a prescribed length by a cutter 9, supported by the plate 10, lowered to a limit switch 12, received by the vessel 13, and then carried out.
