To provide a rubber compsn. which contains a diene elastomer, a specific filler, and a modifier in a specified ratio, is excellent in tensile strength, modulus, rebound, Reovibron E' and, in particular, DIN abrasion resistance, and is useful e.g. for treads of pneumatic tires.
This compsn. contains (A) 100 pts.wt. diene elastomer, (B) 5-100 pts.wt. filler comprising particulate, precipitated silica and carbon black, and (C) a modifier comprising either (C1) a compd. of the formula [wherein R1 and R2 are each 1-20C alkyl or (Cl- or Br-substd.) phenyl] [e.g. N,N'-dimethyl-N, N'-dithiobis(benzenesulfonamide)] or (C2) a combination of 95-25 wt.% compd. C1 with 5-75 wt.% dithiopropionic acid or bis-(3-triethoxysilypropyl) tetrasulfide. In the compsn., ingredient B contains 10-85 wt.% silica; and the wt. ratio of ingredient C to silica in ingredient B is (0.01/1)-(0.2/1).
