PURPOSE: To obtain the subject coating material, containing a mixture of a partial hydrolytic condensate with silica dispersible in organic solvents, curing agent and solvent in a specific proportion and caspable of providing films excellent in scuff, corrosion and hot water resistance and utilizing metallic luster.

CONSTITUTION: The objective coating material containing (A) 5-60wt.% (based on the total amount of the coating) mixture consisting of (i) 15-95wt.% epoxy group-containing organosilicon compound expressed by the formula R(R')aSi(OR")3-a (R is monofunctional organic group including epoxy; R' is methyl or ethyl; R" is alkyl of up to 4C; a is 0 or 1) with (ii) 5-85wt.% silica (SiO2 dispersible in organic solvents, (B) 0.01-5wt.% curing agent, (C) 20-95wt.% solvent and, as necessary, (D) a lower alkyl or phenyl group-containing organosilicon compound expressed by the formula R'''bSi(OR")4-b (R''' is alkyl of up to 4C or phenyl; b is 0-2) in an amount of ≤80wt.% based on the total number of silicon atoms in the components (A) and (B).
