Title:
SILICON-BASED HYBRID MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3296441
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject lightweight and high-toughness material excellent in resistance to heat, combustion and environment, having high mechanical strength and good molding processability by impregnating a silicon-based polymer with a silicate followed by condensation reaction.
CONSTITUTION: The objective hybrid material suitable e.g. as a structural material for aerospace applications such as artificial satellites or space shuttles is obtained by impregnating (A) a silicate such as sodium orthosilicate or sodium calcium metasilicate with (B) a silicon-based polymer such as polysiloxane or polycarbosilane followed by condensation reaction in the presence of a catalyst such as hydrochloric acid or dibutyltin dilaurate.
