Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a polymer usable for imparting an improved combination of oxygen permeability and hardness to polysiloxanylalkyl acrylic polymer used, for example, for a contact lens in combination with other polymer in order to improve the properties of the other polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A novel silicone-containing acrylic star polymer contains a crosslinked core derived from at least a (meth)acrylate monomer and arms of a plurality of linear copolymers having nonbonded free terminals derived from at least a (meth)acrylate monomer bonded to the core and is characterized by that about 5-100 wt.% of the derived (meth) acrylate monomer of the arms is at least one polysiloxanylalkyl ester.
