To obtain the subject composition capable of providing a silicone rubber excellent in flame retardance and electrically insulating characteristics without impairing mechanical strength by blending a specific organopolysiloxane with fine powder-like silica, a specific catalyst and a curing agent.
This silicone rubber composition is obtained by blending (A) 100 pts.wt. organopolysiloxane having ≥2 silicon atom-bonded alkenyl groups and represented by the formula RaSiO(4-a)/2 [R is a (substituted)monofunctional hydrocarbon; (a) is 1.95 to 2.05] (e.g. dimethylpolysiloxane blocked with both terminal dimethylvinylsiloxy groups) with (B) 10-100 pts.wt. fine powder-like silica (preferably having ≥100m2/g specific surface area), (C) a reaction mixture of a platinum compound (preferably chloroplatinic acid) with a organosilicon compound [e.g. methyltris(3-methyl-1-butyn-3-oxy)silane] in an amount of 1-1000 pts.wt. expressed in terms of platinum metal amount based on 1,000,000 weight of the component A and (D) a curing agent (e.g. benzoyl peroxide).
