PURPOSE: To increase the color development density of a silver halide color photosensitive material by incorporating a polymer coupler having repeating units of an oxyalkyl ester of an ethylenic dibasic acid as a comonomer into the photosensitive material.
CONSTITUTION: An oxyalkyl ester of an ethylenic dibasic acid represented by formula I or II is used as a comonomer. In the formulae I, II, each of R1, R2, R4 and R5 is H or alkyl, at least one of R1 and R2 is alkyl having -OR3- as a substituent, at least one of R4 and R5 is alkyl having -OR6- as a substituent and each of R3 and R6 is H, alkyl or alkenyl. The ethylenic comonomer is copolymerized with a monomer having a cyan, magenta or yellow coupler as a coupler monomer to obtain a polymer coupler having repeating units of the comonomer. The polymer coupler is incorporated into a silver halide color photosensitive material so as to increase the color development density of the photosensitive material.
