This photographic element has silver halide emulsion layers and nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layers on a support and at least one of a silver halide emulsion layer and the nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layers contains a composite compound prepared by coating fine inorganic grains each having an anionic surface with a cationic organic polymer and then surface modifying them with a compound having a non-ionic group. This silver halide photographic element is processed in an automatic developing machine in the total processing time of 10-30sec by replenishing in an amount of 35-98mol/m2 of this element.
