PURPOSE: To obtain the titled emulsion capable of giving a good silver halide sensitive material by forming a silver halide particle contg. a prescribed amount of silver bromide, thereby improving the retention property of the coating solution, when chemically aging the silver halide particle which has a high silver chloride content and contains ≥80mol% silver chloride.

CONSTITUTION: The silver halide particle which has the high silver chloride content and contains ≥80mol% silver chloride is incorporated in the emulsion layer. And, the emulsion contg. the silver halide particle having the high silver chloride content is chemically aged, 0.001W0.08mol silver bromide per 1mol of the silver halide particle having the high silver chloride content is formed. AT this time, either a water soluble silver salt and a water soluble bromide may be added to the emulsion contg. silver chloride, or a fine particle of silver bromide may be added to the emulsion contg. silver chloride. Thus, when the silver chloride particle is chemically aged, as the prescribed amount of the silver bromide is formed in the particle, the retention property of the coating solution is improved, and uniform sensitivity for the photosensitive material in the same coating lot is obtd.
